Wild Letters

“Once a little boy sent me a charming card with a little drawing on it. I loved it. I answer all my children’s letters — sometimes very hastily — but this one I lingered over. I sent him a card and I drew a picture of a Wild Thing on it. I wrote, “Dear Jim: I loved your card.” Then I got a letter back from his mother and she said, “Jim loved your card so much he ate it.” That to me was one of the highest compliments I’ve ever received. He didn’t care that it was an original Maurice Sendak drawing or anything. He saw it, he loved it, he ate it.”

  4. Stopping from Mom Loop! I would've wanted to frame the picture. I guess this mom had no way of getting it back.

  5. I've been flat on my back for a couple of days (something I picked up from my toddler). I tried to comment on this post from my iPhone while laid up in bed, but don't think it worked. Love Maurice Sendak, or should say that of his work I know (e.g. Where the Wild Things are and his illustrations of Else Holmelund Minarik's "Little Bear" series of books). I do believe I tweeted this post successfully from my phone a few days back. BTW, you probably don't realize it but you're not following me at twitter.com/adaddyblog. Have a lovely week.
